MALE INVOLVEMENT PROJECT
AT KACHEMAK BAY FAMILY PLANNING CLINIC
Kachemak
Bay Family Planning Clinic is pleased to announce extended services for
male clients, thanks to a combined grant from the federal government,
The Homer Foundation, and the Alaska Community Foundation.
In recent years,
awareness has grown of the need to address the sexual and reproductive
health of men. Men in general have a tendency to not seek regular,
routine checkups; although a growing number of men are seeking
reproductive health care services such as sexually transmitted infection
testing, birth control supplies & counseling, and family planning.
KBPFC’s Male Involvement Project will include extended hours on select
evenings and Saturdays, and the addition of periodic male-only clinics
offering physical exams. KBFPC will also provide for a series of
educational groups for young
men to address
topics of healthy/unhealthy relationships, STI/HIV risk-reduction,
bullying, harassment and violence prevention, unintended pregnancy
prevention, and general reproductive health topics using science-based
curricula.
KBFPC services for
men currently include sexually transmitted infection testing, birth
control supplies and counseling, no-scalpel vasectomies, and
reproductive health counseling & information. KBFPC anticipates its
first male-only clinic, offering more comprehensive physical wellness
exams for men, in January 2009. Call us at 235-3436 for more
information or to offer your ideas on how KBFPC can improve its services
for men on the lower Kenai Peninsula.
